Checkpoint indaga en las profundas interrelaciones entre el paisaje y los procesos internos de crecimiento que definen el tránsito hacia la madurez. Este fotolibro recorre el territorio de la transformación personal a través de dos subjetividades: la de Víctor, inmigrante cubano, y la del propio autor. Sus narrativas se entrelazan entre geografías y estados emocionales, ofreciendo visiones distintas pero complementarias sobre el desplazamiento, la identidad y el devenir.
La estructura del libro es deliberadamente no lineal: invita al espectador a comenzar desde ambas cubiertas, avanzando hacia un eje central antes de invertir el sentido de la lectura.
Esta configuración espacial busca encarnar una reflexión más holística sobre las dinámicas entre sujeto y entorno, entre memoria y presencia, entre historia individual y espacio colectivo.
Las imágenes funcionan tanto como documento como metáfora. Trazan gestos de supervivencia y adaptación, dibujando las negociaciones silenciosas que tienen lugar cuando se aprende
a habitar lo desconocido. El paisaje —al mismo tiempo externo y simbólico— se convierte en un lugar de introspección y resistencia, un testigo activo de los ritos de paso y umbrales emocionales que experimentan quienes están en tránsito.
Acompaña la narrativa visual un texto poético fragmentario que evoca la fragilidad y la resiliencia inscritas en la condición migrante. La obra reflexiona sobre la soledad, el enfrentamiento, la transformación y la memoria. El fotolibro se presenta así no solo como contenedor de imágenes, sino como un checkpoint vivo: un lugar donde se reconocen los nudos internos, se intentan deshacer, o simplemente se aceptan.

Checkpoint delves into the profound interrelations between landscape and the internal processes of growth that define the passage into maturity. This photobook navigates the terrain of personal transformation through the lens of two subjectivities: that of Víctor, a Cuban immigrant, and that of the artist himself. Their narratives intersect across geographies and emotional states, each offering a distinct yet complementary vision of displacement, identity and becoming.
The book’s structure is deliberately non-linear: it invites the viewer to begin from both covers, progressing inward toward a central axis before inverting the reading direction. This spatial configuration seeks to embody a more holistic reflection on the dynamics between subject and environment, memory and presence, individual story and collective space.
The images act as both document and metaphor. They trace gestures of survival and adaptation, charting the silent negotiations that occur when one learns to inhabit unfamiliar ground. The landscape—at once external and symbolic—becomes a site of introspection and resistance, an active witness to the rites of passage and emotional thresholds experienced by those in transit.
Accompanying the visual narrative is a fragmentary poetic text that evokes the fragility and resilience embedded in the migratory condition. The work reflects on solitude, confrontation, transformation and memory. It positions the photobook not just as a container of images, but as a living checkpoint: a place where inner knots are acknowledged, untangled, and sometimes simply endured.
